FLAT GRINDING and POLISHING AUTOMAT GB 212

for square tubes and mass parts with flat surfaces

Your workpieces:

Cast flat parts, e.g. hearth plates, flat steel and steel strip from reel to reel; aluminum and steel profiles; square and oval tubes; stamped parts, e.g. cutlery brandels and type levers, clocks. and sewing machine parts; tassel lifters, slide gauges and measuring rods; saw blades and knife handles; door slogans and lettering made of light metal or steel; plastic rods, e.g. acrylic glass rods or slide rules.

Their demands:
Smoothing of the surface, e.g. as preparation for chrome plating; descaling of flat steel; removal of punching and other burrs; surface grinding of flange surfaces on castings; roughening of profiles or steel strip as adhesion primer preparation for coating; application of a decorative brushing pattern; abrasive grinding, e.g. on plates.

Our solution:

Automatic workpiece throughput with transport belt via plant table support.
Automatic operation of the belt grinding or polishing heads and of the coolant or paste feeding device.
Automatic feeding and removal of the workpieces, if this additional automation stage is necessary.

The workpieces are advanced by an endless conveyor belt over a plant table support and under the belt grinding, brushing or polishing stations. The number and equipment of the stations depends on the specific work requirements. As shown in the adjacent layout, most of the surface grinding machines are equipped with several grinding. and two brushing and polishing stations. With abrasive belts of graduated grit, fleece and finish belts, the optimum sanding pattern can thus be achieved from coarse to fine sanding in one continuous pass.

Characteristics of the machine

The machine is equipped with one or more working units that can be moved up and down on double circular guides with linear ball bearings. The units are adjusted to the required workpiece density by means of an additional elevator wheel adjustment with a handwheel. The handwheel has an adjustable vernier ring for more precise adjustment.

The grinding units are constructed in a 2-roller system with the driven contact wheel and the tensioning / deflection roller. This roller is additionally used to regulate the belt run by means of a handwheel located outside the belt protection box. The belt tension is provided by a compressed air cylinder acting on the deflection roller and is easily adjustable by means of a compressed air regulator. To change the belt, the belt tension is released via a hand lever valve.

In order to hold very small parts on the conveyor belts, special pressure rollers can be installed for non-ferrous metals, which press the workpieces firmly onto the belts. For magnetizable workpieces, a magnetic plate is integrated into the grinding table below the transport belt. In order to remove the magnetism remaining on the workpieces, a demagnetizing device is arranged behind the last grinding position.

The GB 212 machine type has decisive advantages over conventional surface grinding machines:

    1. The contact pressure of the grinding units can be precisely determined via a two-part vertical slide. The grinding belt drive on the one hand and the guard box with the pressure rollers on the other are mounted on the guide rods of the carriage so that they can move against each other. The dead weight of the drive is compensated by a counterweight which can be moved on a lever and which also loads the protective box and the pressure rollers via an abutment. This patented system ensures that only the contact wheel and the belt tensioning arm follow the contour of the workpiece at constant grinding pressure, while the belt guard box with the pressure rollers remains at the set grinding height. This sensitive control results in excellent surface quality, long belt life and largely prevents the occurrence of chatter marks and edge drop or the workpiece slip known from conventional surface grinding machines.
    2. The work spindle is mounted on double bearings and, compared to the single-bearing shaft of a standard motor, guarantees that the full workpiece width is ground perfectly without one-sided lifting of the grinding spindle at high belt tension and radial clearance.
